Gaza’s Hero Doctor Faces Severe Torture in Israeli Prison

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, hailed as Gaza‘s hero doctor and the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, has been held in dire circumstances in Israeli detention facilities since his capture on December 27, 2024. His arrest occurred during what is described as the brutal assault by the Israeli army on northern Gaza, which led to the hospital being set ablaze.

Through his lawyer, Dr. Abu Safiya has detailed his deteriorating physical state in solitary confinement within an Israeli prison. He reported being subjected to frequent and severe beatings by guards using their hands, feet, and batons.

Furthermore, he indicated that Israeli forces deliberately disturb his sleep throughout the night by creating noise and using loudspeakers. He also stated that he is under constant threat and warnings from his captors.

Dr. Abu Safiya informed his lawyer that Israeli authorities have threatened him and cautioned him against disclosing the conditions he is enduring in prison.

The Physicians for Human Rights Association issued a statement regarding Dr. Abu Safiya’s condition, noting that their investigation into his injuries reveals severe trauma, including significant damage to his left eye and serious wounds to his head, chest, and sensitive areas resulting from persistent attacks.

The association emphasized that they have repeatedly requested permission for specialized medical examinations and for an independent specialist to visit Dr. Abu Safiya in prison, but these requests have been consistently denied by Israeli authorities.

This situation is particularly concerning given that Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya suffers from chronic health issues, including heart problems and high blood pressure, all of which have worsened during his detention.
