Gaza Education Ministry Reports 22 Student and Staff Casualties in October Israeli Attacks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, …the Gaza Ministry of Education released a statement on Tuesday detailing that 14 students, aged between 6 and 16, alongside eight educational workers, lost their lives during the Israeli military’s incursions into the enclave throughout the month of October.
Among the victims from the educational staff were four school teachers, three employees from the Islamic University of Gaza, and a female university professor who was killed during an airstrike targeting a residential unit. The ministry also reported that numerous other students, university attendees, and instructors sustained injuries in bombardments targeting schools and displaced persons’ tents.
According to the ministry, ongoing military gunfire directed at residential neighborhoods and educational centers has severely disrupted or halted classes in parts of Khan Yunis, Deir al-Balah, the Bureij refugee camp, and northern areas of the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, the persistent blockade and border closures continue to prevent scholarship students from leaving Gaza, while severe fuel shortages pose critical challenges to student transport and the operation of educational facilities.
In a related context, the Gaza Government Media Office reported that 95 percent of the territory’s schools have sustained damage from Israeli attacks since October 2023. Additionally, figures published by the Ministry of Education in July 2026 indicate that over 20,051 students and 532 teachers have been killed in Gaza between October 2023 and that timeframe.
The ministry called upon the global community and international organizations to intervene to protect the lives of students and teachers, halt attacks on educational institutions, and facilitate the entry of essential supplies and equipment required for school reconstruction. The report concluded by noting that since the implementation of the ceasefire agreement on October 10, 2025, Israeli attacks on Gaza have resulted in the deaths of 1,593 Palestinian citizens and injuries to 5,748 others.
