Afghan people are the largest refugee population in the world
According to the regional office report Tasnim News, the UN refugee agency announced in its new report that Afghans still constitute the largest population of refugees worldwide, and the majority of them are based in Iran and Pakistan.
According to this report, one out of every six refugees is under the protection of the Afghan UNHCR and The total number of these refugees is slightly more than 6.4 million people.
UN Refugee Agency added Afghan refugees are present in 108 countries and their number has increased by 741,400 people or 13% compared to last year.
The report emphasizes that this is mainly due to the increase in the number of Afghans who have refugee status in Iran (327,300) and Pakistan (189,800 people).
The United Nations Refugee Agency noted that the largest countries hosting refugees include Iran with 3.8 million, Turkey with 3.3 million, Colombia with 2.9 million, Germany with 2.6 million and Pakistan with 2 million.
