A staunch critic of aid to Ukraine arrived in Kiev with the aim of resolving the war
According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News quoted by Tass, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is one of the staunch and long-time critics of Europe’s military and financial aid to Ukraine, in order to negotiate with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky entered the capital of this country.
Orban’s press spokesman Bertalan Havasi announced in a statement: The opportunity to achieve peace will be the main topic of this meeting. Orban and Zelenskiy will also discuss the current issues of bilateral relations between Hungary and Ukraine.
This is Orban’s first visit to Kyiv since the start of the Ukrainian war in February 2022. The Prime Minister of Hungary, unlike other European leaders, has always opposed sending weapons to Ukraine and calls for a diplomatic solution to the war.
Orban and Zelenskiy spoke briefly during the European Union summit in Brussels last week. Previously, the president of Ukraine had invited Orban to Kiev. They met several times within two years and the recent team on the sidelines of international events.
On May 8, Zelenskiy invited Orban to the Ukraine “Peace” conference in Switzerland, but the Hungarian Prime Minister did not accept it. Budapest’s Foreign Minister Peter Ciarto participated in that conference on behalf of Orban.
