Tokyo and NATO agreed to create a secret communication system
The Asahi newspaper reported that an agreement on this may be reached during the presence of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which will be held in Washington on July 9-11.
NATO countries use a secure communication system to exchange classified information, and now this system is being transferred to Japan, which is a permanent partner of NATO.
Last year, Tokyo signed an agreement with NATO on cooperation in 16 areas, including cyber security, space operations and information sharing. There is a permanent delegation from Japan at the headquarters of this alliance in Brussels.
Kishida will participate in the NATO summit for the third time this year. For this purpose, he will arrive in Washington tomorrow (Wednesday) and will hold a series of multilateral and bilateral meetings there on Thursday.
