Erdogan announced the beginning of efforts to revive the grain agreement
Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO Summit: “Work has begun to revive the Black Sea Grains Agreement.”
According to the Anatolian news agency, Erdogan and Zelenskiy met each other on the sidelines of the NATO summit held in Washington on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of its establishment and discussed the war between Russia and Ukraine and regional and global issues. In the closed-door meeting, Erdogan told Zelensky that Turkey would continue its efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
The Black Sea Grain Agreement was signed with the mediation of Turkey and the United Nations in 2022 so that Ukraine and Russia could export grain by sea in the middle of the war and help reduce the global food crisis. After the end of the contract, Moscow refused to renew it and said that the Russian part of the agreement has not been fulfilled and that due to Western sanctions and problems in the payment system, Russia has not been able to export its chemical fertilizers and grains. Russia also announced that most of the grain exported under this agreement was sent to rich countries, contrary to what was stated.
