, following Amnesty International’s request to the International Criminal Court, also known as the Hague Court, to examine the cases of war crimes in Afghanistan, the spokesperson of the Taliban announced that the said court does not have the power to deal with the crimes of the occupiers.
A part of the declaration of Amnesty International says: The International Criminal Court must implement justice for the victims of crimes committed by the Taliban. And also prioritize the other countries that did in Afghanistan before the Taliban took over in 2021 and speed up this process.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid responded to this request and stated: This court cannot bring the powerful occupying countries to account for their crimes in Afghanistan.
He added that the ruling body of Afghanistan has no hope in this court to investigate the crimes of American and NATO soldiers and questioned the impartiality of this institution.
Salim Pigir, an expert on military and political issues, also said about this: If the court wants to cover all these crimes and bring the perpetrators to court, it should start from America.
The Hague Court recently announced that it will resume the investigation of war crimes in Afghanistan, but the crimes committed by American soldiers during their 20 years of presence in Afghanistan It will not be reviewed.
Human Rights Watch, in response to this decision, emphasized that the exemption of the United States from the investigation is due to the White House’s threat to impose sanctions against the Hague Tribunal and calls for an investigation and The crimes committed by all sides, including the American military, against the Afghan people had been dealt with.
