The former Prime Minister of the Netherlands became the new Secretary General of NATO

The North Atlantic Organization (NATO) published a statement announcing the end of the presidency of the former Secretary General of this military organization and the beginning of the work of the new Secretary General.

According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency, according to Reuters, the North Atlantic Organization (NATO) released a statement announcing that the Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg’s term as NATO Secretary General ended yesterday (September 31). And Mark Rutte, the former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, will officially start his work as the Secretary General of NATO today, Tuesday (October 1).

According to Reuters, he will take over the post of NATO Secretary General from Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg today at the NATO headquarters in Brussels. Stoltenberg headed NATO for a decade.

Mark Rutte was appointed as the Secretary General of this military alliance led by the US at the meeting of NATO ambassadors in Brussels in early September.

Ruthe was appointed to this position and replaced Jens Stoltenberg in a situation where the war in Ukraine has created a security crisis for the members of this military coalition.

US President Joe Biden and his counterparts will officially welcome Rutte at the NATO summit hosted by Washington on July 9-11.

Stoltenberg has been the Secretary General of NATO for more than a decade. His general secretary’s term was extended several times due to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.
