AmirAbdollahian: Iran hosts the largest displaced population in the world
Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian announced that Iran hosts the largest displaced population in the world. |
You can read the detailed statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country below:
“The World Refugee Assembly was created with the aim of strengthening global practical solidarity and mobilizing the necessary resources to assist the main hosts of refugees. At the same time, no temporary solution can permanently solve the problem of refugees.
The UNHCR and the international community should make an extra effort to facilitate the return of refugees to their countries.
As you know, Iran has been the host of the longest refugee situation for more than forty-five years, and now, after the developments in Afghanistan in 2021, my country hosts the largest displaced population in the world.
Numerous military interventions and other interventions by powers outside our region have caused instability and insecurity in such a way that this factor itself has caused waves of displacement throughout the region. Iran has borne the burden imposed as a result of the irresponsible policies and military interventions of the United States and its allies in the vicinity of Iran in the region.
Giving Islamic teachings, we provided suitable living conditions for Afghan refugees. All Afghan children can enroll in Iranian schools.
One country alone cannot bear the cost and burden of the world’s largest displaced population, and this is unfair. The costs of hosting refugees should be divided fairly between the countries.
In the end, I emphasize that no conscientious person can remain silent about the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and the whole of Palestine. Where the innocent people of Gaza are killed on a large scale with the aim of leaving their homeland and their buildings are destroyed.
The occupying regime is creating a new wave of displacement and adding millions to the seven million displaced Palestinian population.
Dear colleagues, a new displacement crisis is taking place in Gaza and the West Bank. More than twenty thousand innocent people were killed in Gaza in the last two months, and we have a duty to reopen the Rafah border and send large-scale humanitarian aid without any justification.
