China: Taiwan’s attempt to gain independence with the help of the United States has a tragic end

“Lai Ching-te”, the chief executive of Taiwan’s autonomous government, congratulated the appointment of US Republican Senator Mark Rubio to the position of Secretary of State of the US President-elect Donald Trump’s administration earlier this month. Rubio has twice been targeted by Beijing’s sanctions.
Following this congratulatory message, Binhua said: No matter who is appointed to any position in the new American government, there will be no change in Taiwan’s status as part of China. Lai Chingte’s government will definitely suffer a sad fate and become a victim in its efforts to achieve independence with the help of America.
Taiwan has been governed autonomously since 1949. However, Beijing considers the island part of its territory. China has opposed any official foreign contact with Taipei and considers such measures to be a violation of the “One China” principle.
