Turkish and American defense ministers talk about Syria
report Mehr News Agency quoted Al Jazeera, America and Turkey have different interests in Syria, but what brought these two countries closer to each other was the alliance to overthrow Bashar al-Assad. Now with the disappearance of this common goal, the two countries are looking for a temporary appointment to prevent the escalation of tensions.
Accordingly, Lloyd Austin, the US Secretary of Defense during a phone call with Yashar Güler, his Turkish counterpart discussed and consulted about the situation in Syria.
The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) issued a statement and announced: During this phone call, the two sides emphasized the establishment of peace and stability in Syria. Austin assured his Turkish counterpart that close and continuous coordination is critical to maintaining the continued success of the mission to defeat ISIS.
America supports the Kurdish forces known as the Syrian Democratic Forces and considers them necessary to control and prevent the re-emergence of ISIS. Meanwhile, Ankara considers Kurdish autonomy near its borders as a threat to Türkiye’s national security.
