India Suspends 65-Year-Old Treaty, Closes Key Border Crossing with Pakistan After Kashmir Terror Attack
The Indian goverment has taken strong measures in response to a terrorist attack targeting a group of tourists in the Kashmir region, suspending a 65-year-old treaty and closing the main border crossing between India and Pakistan.
According to the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, two days after armed assailants attacked tourists in Indian-administered kashmir, India announced retaliatory measures against its neighboring country, Pakistan.
Among these severe actions are the closure of the primary transit border crossing between the two nations, suspension of a historic water-sharing treaty, expulsion of diplomats, and orders for certain Pakistani passport holders to leave India within 48 hours.
Emergency Meeting Held by Pakistan’s National Security council
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister stated that officials—who denied India’s accusations of involvement in the attack—held an emergency meeting today to respond to Delhi’s measures.“Pahalgam Attack: One of the Deadliest Attacks in the Recent History of a Restive Region”
The attack on Tuesday in Pahalgam is considered one of the deadliest incidents in the recent history of this volatile region,claiming the lives of 26 tourists—an event that could further strain already frosty bilateral relations between the two countries.
Both India and Pakistan claim full sovereignty over Kashmir,yet each administers only part of it.In a sharp response to the attack, India indirectly held Pakistan responsible. India also announced it woudl suspend its water treaty with Pakistan, which has been in place since 1960. Under this agreement, control over eastern rivers was granted to India while western rivers…The duty has been attributed to Pakistan.
Indian security agencies claim that a group called the “kashmir resistance” is behind this attack. The Pakistani government has announced that its National Security Council will hold a meeting today.
Expulsion of Military Advisors and Pakistani Diplomats from New Delhi
In line with measures taken by India against Pakistan, Pakistani military advisors stationed at the embassy in New Delhi must leave India immediately. Additionally, a second wave of diplomat expulsions will be on the agenda next week.
The attack in pahalgam has heightened the risk of reigniting long-standing tensions between these two nuclear-armed nations.
We Will Respond Appropriately to India’s Actions
Khwaja Asif, Pakistan’s Defense Minister, responded to Indian allegations regarding the Pahalgam attack by stating, “Islamabad will give a proportionate response to India’s actions.”
Pakistan’s Defense Minister also rejected the accusations…Pakistan accused India of supporting terrorism, alleging that it backs armed Baloch groups and facilitates terrorist activities through its consulates in Afghanistan.
