U.S. News Site Axios Claims President’s Team Preparing for Possible Talks with North Korean Leader

The English section of the “Webangah ​News Agency” reported, citing Mehr News Agency and RT, that‌ Axios wrote—citing sources—that Donald Trump’s team, the U.S. president, is ​evaluating a⁤ new strategy toward⁣ North ⁤Korea, likely reflecting diplomatic engagement with Pyongyang during his first presidential term.

During his first term, Trump held several⁣ in-person meetings ⁤with⁢ Kim Jong Un, North KoreaS leader. Notable among these were the 2018 summit in Singapore, the 2019 meeting in Hanoi, and another‌ encounter later that year in the demilitarized zone (DMZ) on the korean Peninsula.

Axios noted ‍that as North Korea has strengthened its military capabilities—including nuclear forces—and deepened ties with Russia and China, Washington has less ⁢leverage to pressure Pyongyang compared to the late 2010s.
