Zelensky: Ceasefire may be established at any moment
Ukrainian President Announces Possibility of Ceasefire on Battlefronts with Russia
According to a report by the English section of “webangah News Agency” citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, stated on Sunday that a ceasefire with Russia in the ongoing war—which has lasted over three years—could be achieved at any moment. He urged Kyiv’s allies to increase pressure on Moscow to make this step a reality.
During a joint press conference with Petr Pavel, president of the Czech republic, in Prague, Zelenskyy emphasized that without heightened pressure, Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, would take no practical steps to end the conflict.
He told reporters: “We believe that without increased pressure, Russia will not take any real action to end the war. Today marks the 54th day since Russia ignored even America’s proposal for a full ceasefire.”
Zelenskyy stressed: “In our view, a ceasefire is possible at any moment—even starting today—and should last at least 30 days to give diplomacy a genuine chance to work.”
Last week, Putin declared a three-day ceasefire (May 8–10) commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union and its allies’ victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. Though, Zelenskyy dismissed this move as meaningless and rather demanded an unconditional ceasefire lasting at least 30 days, aligning with America’s March proposal.
As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the Czech government has been one of Kyiv’s staunchest supporters and has lead an initiative to supply heavy ammunition to ukraine.
