Abu Obeida: Hamas will release American prisoner today
The spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades announced Hamas’ decision to release Aiden Alexander, an American-Israeli captive, in accordance with an agreement with Washington, stating that this will take place today.
According to a report by the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Hamas’ telegram channel, Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades (the military wing of Hamas), stated that the brigades have decided to release Aiden Alexander, a captive holding American citizenship, on monday, May 12, 2025.
This brief statement from Abu Obeida was released after Hamas announced last night its agreement to free Aiden Alexander as part of a deal with the United States.
Today, the american news outlet Axios quoted an Israeli official as saying that Tel Aviv’s military has prepared a safe passage for Aiden Alexander’s exit from Gaza and will declare temporary ceasefires in certain areas of Gaza.
The Israeli newspaper Maariv also reported that Tel Aviv is preparing today (Monday) for the release of this Israeli-American captive. The paper suggested that his release could occur between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM local time.
Another Israeli newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth, wrote that necessary preparations have been made for Alexander’s release and coordination has been established with the Red cross. Channel 12 of Zionist regime TV also reported that Tel Aviv’s military has received orders to implement a ceasefire in Gaza starting noon today to facilitate the handover process of this Israeli captive.
Aiden Alexander is a 21-year-old soldier in the Zionist regime’s army and was born in New Jersey, USA. he is among 38 captives who were supposed to be released under a ceasefire agreement signed on January 19; however, this deal was halted following renewed attacks by Israel on Gaza last March.
Leaders of Israel insist on continuing its war against Gaza until all Zionist captives are freed and Gaza is disarmed—while Hamas maintains that releasing these captives can only happen within an agreement framework aimed at ending hostilities altogether.
