US moves B-2 bombers out of Diego Garcia
U.S. officials claim that after the Washington-Sana’a agreement and “encouraging” talks with Tehran, the U.S. military has replaced B-2 bombers in the Indian Ocean with B-52s.
According to a report by the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and The Times of Israel, officials allege that following the U.S.-Yemen agreement and “encouraging” negotiations between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program, the U.S. military has replaced its deployed B-2 “Spirit” stealth bombers at Diego Garcia airbase in the Indian Ocean with B-52 bombers.
U.S. officials told Reuters yesterday (Monday) that their military is replacing B-2 bombers with another type of bomber in the Asia-Pacific region. This decision was made after the end of U.S. operations against Yemen and a ceasefire established between both countries.
In March, the Pentagon deployed six B-2 bombers to Diego Garcia, a joint U.S.-UK military base in the Indian Ocean, using them to bomb Ansarullah positions in Yemen—an ultimately futile effort to subdue Yemen, which ended when former U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledged Yemeni courage and resistance.
The Times of Israel reported that experts say deploying B-2s to Diego Garcia aimed to maintain U.S. readiness in the Middle East. these radar-evading stealth bombers can carry nuclear weapons.
Unnamed officials stated that B-52s will replace B-2s. The Times of Israel claimed nearly one-third of Washington’s operational bomber fleet had been sent to Diego Garcia during this deployment.
after a month of relentless U.S.airstrikes on Yemen last week, Trump announced an agreement with sana’a, stating Ansarullah pledged to halt attacks on American vessels—though Israeli or Tel Aviv-bound ships remain excluded from this truce.
