Russian forces strike Kyiv hours after first round of prisoner swap deal
Kyiv officials reported missile and drone strikes by Moscow on the Ukrainian capital amid a russia-Ukraine prisoner swap deal, according to webangah News Agency citing AFP.
Tymur Kachynko, head of Kyiv’s military-civil administration, confirmed debris from missiles and drones fell in multiple locations across the city.
kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated at least eight people were wounded in the attack. In a Telegram post, he wrote: “The capital and its outskirts are again under massive fire. Air defense systems remain continuously active across Kyiv.”
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed Ukraine had launched 788 drones and missiles since last Tuesday, with 776 intercepted.
The strike occurred hours after both sides completed the first phase of their prisoner exchange agreement. Negotiated last week in Istanbul, this would become the largest POW swap since Russia’s Febuary 2022 invasion if fully implemented.
Each side received 390 prisoners in the initial phase, with expectations for 1,000 total exchanges upon completion.
