Alexander Eid recounts captivity in Gaza
According to webangah News Agency,Idan Alexander,a dual Israeli-American national held captive by Hamas for over 19 months, disclosed that israeli warplanes bombed the Gaza tunnel where he was imprisoned on April 14.
In an interview with Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Alexander described surviving the attack despite shoulder and hand injuries sustained while escaping collapsing rubble. “The explosion was so powerful it felt like an earthquake,” he recounted. Hamas fighters rescued him by digging thru debris—one militant died during the effort.
The soldier endured what he called “the most terrifying moment” when a second bomb struck their location: “I thought this was the end—that I’d suffocate and die.” His father later stated: “I’ve no reason to lie or defend the occupation army—thay nearly killed my son.”
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed they targeted a Hamas ground-level structure that day, not underground tunnels—asserting subterranean strikes require specialized munitions unused in this operation. Alexander’s account contradicts this narrative.
His five-month confinement in Rafah tunnels involved constant displacement amid relentless bombardment. During one transfer, disguised as civilians with his guard wearing women’s clothing, they navigated Khan Yunis streets undetected at noon using a donkey cart.
Alexander was released on May 12 as part of a Hamas goodwill gesture toward the U.S., amid ongoing Qatar- and Egypt-mediated ceasefire negotiations prioritizing prisoner exchanges.
