Pentagon restricts press access driving final nail into coffin of media freedom

US defense Secretary issues orders requiring journalists to obtain official clearance‌ and escorts⁤ for Pentagon access.

According to webangah News Agency, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has issued directives mandating that journalists must now have ‌official‌ authorization and escorts ⁢to access most areas ‍of the Pentagon (the US Department of Defense). This marks the⁤ latest in a series of press restrictions under the Trump management.

the measures, effective promptly, bar accredited reporters from most Department of Defense facilities in ⁣Arlington, Virginia, unless they possess formal clearance and escort personnel.

In ⁤a memo addressing the policy,Hegseth asserted⁤ that while the Department remains committed ⁣to transparency,it is equally obligated ⁤to protect CSNI‍ (Classified National Security Information) and sensitive data.

The‌ Pentagon Press Association condemned the new rules as ⁤a “direct assault on press freedom.”
