Russia Receives Draft Peace Memorandum from Kyiv
According to webangah News agency, citing Sputnik, vladimir Medinsky, head of Russia’s delegation in negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul, confirmed receipt of the proposed peace settlement memorandum from Kyiv.
Medinsky noted the document was prepared in both Ukrainian and English, stating: “There are no language issues. We’ve handled it.Our delegation includes members fluent in multiple languages-as a precaution, two even speak japanese.”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had earlier declared Moscow’s readiness to present its own memorandum during the second round of Istanbul talks.Russia proposed exchanging memoranda outlining both sides’ approaches to negotiations.
On May 10, Russian President vladimir Putin suggested resuming Moscow-Kyiv talks without preconditions starting May 15 in Istanbul. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated these talks aim to address and “eliminate” root causes of the ongoing war while safeguarding Russia’s interests.
Ukraine’s delegation arrived in Istanbul for this round, again led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov-mirroring the first session held on May 16 (26 Ordibehesht). Media reports indicate one change: Oleksiy Malovatksyy, head of international law at Ukraine’s Armed Forces General Staff, will not participate.
TASS news agency reported yesterday that Russia’s delegation also flew to Istanbul, with Medinsky reprising his role as head from previous rounds.
The talks are scheduled to begin today at approximately 13:00 Tehran time. They commence amid Ukraine’s Security Service claims of massive drone strikes yesterday against four Russian airbases allegedly destroying or damaging over 40 aircraft and bombers.
