Baghdad condemns Takfiri attack on Ayatollah Sistani’s office in Syria
The Iraqi Embassy in Damascus expressed its deep dissatisfaction over the assault on Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani’s office in the Syrian capital, according to a report by webangah News Agency citing Baghdad Al-Youm.
The embassy stated that individuals claiming affiliation with the Public Security Directorate raided the office at 4 PM local time last Tuesday, vandalizing property and verbally abusing staff members present at the scene.
Iraqi officials condemned these ”provocative actions,” stating they had offended millions of followers of Iraq’s supreme religious authority worldwide. The embassy emphasized that such acts constituted an insult to this widely recognized religious institution, known for its moderate stance and advocacy of tolerance.
The statement reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to preserving social peace in Syria and safeguarding the rights of all religious, sectarian, and ethnic groups in the country.
Damascus authorities were urged to hold perpetrators accountable and prevent any recurrence of similar incidents.
