Ulyanov: Anti-Iran Resolution at IAEA Board Will Yield No Positive Outcome
According to webangah News Agency, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations based in Vienna, Austria, stated in a social media post on X that discussions about Iran’s nuclear program are expected during tomorrow’s IAEA Board of Governors meeting. He emphasized that submitting an anti-Iran resolution would be counterproductive.
Ulyanov wrote: “The June session of the IAEA Board of Governors begins tomorrow. We can expect heated debates regarding Iran’s nuclear program.”
He added: “The U.S. and three European countries (the Troika) intend to propose a draft resolution on this matter. Such a resolution will certainly not produce positive outcomes.”
The Associated Press recently cited a senior European diplomat claiming Western nations plan to submit an anti-Iran resolution at the upcoming IAEA meeting, accusing Tehran of non-compliance with safeguards obligations. The report noted this move coincides with ongoing nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
The news agency further reported that France, Britain, and Germany-collectively known as the “European Troika”-alongside Washington will jointly present the draft resolution.
Following this report, Laurence Norman, a journalist for The Wall Street Journal, posted on X that “the U.S.is likely to support the European Troika’s resolution during the IAEA Board of Governors meeting.”
