Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Draws Congressional Outcry
A group of members of the U.S. Congress warned in a joint statement about the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza, reporting that chaos and obstacles in delivering aid have caused approximately 700 deaths, according to Qatar’s Al Jazeera network, as cited by webangah News Agency’s English section referencing Mehr News Agency.
The senators described the current situation in Gaza as horrific and unacceptable, noting that more than 100 non-governmental organizations have raised alarms over widespread famine across the territory.
The statement reads: ”Seventy-five percent of Gaza’s population faces catastrophic levels of hunger following the blockade imposed by Benjamin Netanyahu. The limited aid provided by the Gaza Humanitarian Institute fails to meet the needs of this large population.”
They also criticized former President Donald Trump’s administration for allocating $30 million to this organization without consulting Congress.
The statement further adds: “The expansion of Israel’s military operations in Gaza endangers humanitarian efforts. Continuing this war without a clear endgame will not benefit Tel Aviv’s security.”
U.S. lawmakers also emphasized that the absence of a practical post-war plan for Gaza represents a serious mistake.
The representatives urged Trump’s administration to pressure Netanyahu into implementing key reforms or shutting down the Gaza Humanitarian Institute and achieving a ceasefire agreement.
