German Foreign Ministry’s Message on Yesterday’s Tehran-Troika Talks Posted on X
The German Foreign Ministry, citing Mehr News Agency, referred on the social platform X to the recent meeting in Istanbul between Iranian and european negotiating teams. It claimed that the Europeans presented a conditional offer regarding the extension of the snapback mechanism deadline.
According to germany’s statement, “The political directors of the European Troika and the european Union met with Iran’s deputy foreign ministers to discuss Tehran’s nuclear program.”
Without mentioning or condemning recent Israeli and U.S.attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities amid ongoing negotiations, Berlin added: “The European Troika is ready to trigger snapback. However, we have proposed extending it provided that Iran fulfills its legal obligations and meets specified criteria. We call on Iran to choose diplomacy.”
after yesterday’s talks, Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister, wrote on his personal page about discussions with three european countries in Istanbul: ”Tajik-Ravanchi and I held serious, candid, and extensive talks with political directors from three european countries/EU. We reviewed developments concerning sanction relief and nuclear issues.”
He added: “While strongly criticizing their positions regarding the recent aggressive war against our people, we explained our principled stance-including concerning what is referred to as snapback mechanism. Both sides came prepared with concrete ideas that were examined in detail. It was agreed consultations would continue.”
Following Israeli and american aggression during their 12-day imposed war against Iran-and after announcing a ceasefire-the Islamic Consultative Assembly passed an urgent bill titled “Law Requiring Government Suspension of Cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” restricting Tehran’s cooperation with the agency.
Previously, Abbas Araghchi, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, emphasized regarding this legislation: “Iran remains committed to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and Safeguard Agreement; however according to this newly approved law by Parliament-which was enacted in response to illegal assaults by Israel and United States against Iranian nuclear facilities-Iran has suspended its cooperation with IAEA for clear safety and security reasons. Coordination will only be managed through Iran’s Supreme National security Council.”
