Thailand and Cambodia Hold First Talks 48 Hours After Trump’s Tariff Threat
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing mehr News Agency and Japan Times, a Thai government spokesperson announced that Thailand’s interim Prime Minister and his Cambodian counterpart will meet today under U.S. mediation to halt deadly clashes.
The spokesperson, Jirayut Hongsop, confirmed that Prawit wichayachai, Thailand’s interim prime minister, and Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet are scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. local time.
The meeting will take place at the office of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in his capacity as rotating chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
This marks the first direct negotiation since clashes began on July 24-just 48 hours after U.S. president Donald Trump claimed that the leaders had agreed to resolve tensions promptly and reach an immediate ceasefire.
Following separate calls with both prime ministers, Trump warned Washington would not engage in trade talks with either contry while conflicts persist.
