Director of U.S. Labor Statistics Becomes Victim of Trump’s Conspiracy Delusion
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Euronews, US president Donald Trump fired Erica McEntarfer, Commissioner of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, following the release of July’s monthly employment report that showed a decline compared to two months earlier.
The report revealed that the US economy added only 73,000 jobs in July. It also revised job gains for May and June downward by a combined total of 258,000 positions compared to earlier estimates.
Trump announced McEntarfer’s dismissal on his social media platform Truth Social, accusing her of politically motivated manipulation of employment data. McEntarfer had been appointed during Joe Biden’s presidency.
He stated, “I have directed my team to remove this Biden political appointee. She will be replaced by someone far more capable and deserving.”
In a subsequent message, Trump claimed: “In my view, today’s employment figures were manipulated to harm Republicans and me personally.”
Although Trump has not provided evidence supporting these allegations, many consider his charge an impulsive move that undermines the political legitimacy of US economic data and threatens its integrity.
Following Trump’s initial announcement, US secretary of Labor Marty Walsh confirmed on Twitter (X) that McEntarfer no longer holds any position at the agency. William Wyatrowski, her deputy, will serve as interim head.
