Erdogan to Visit Ukraine at Zelensky’s Invitation

Turkish media report that the country’s president will visit Ukraine in the coming days.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing ​Mehr News Agency and⁣ TASS, the Turkish newspaper Türkiye ⁤reported that President Recep Tayyip erdoğan is expected to travel to Ukraine soon.

The trip to Kyiv is reportedly at the invitation of Ukrainian President ⁢Volodymyr Zelensky‌ and has attracted attention within diplomatic​ circles.

Key topics for this⁤ visit include ratifying a free trade⁤ agreement between Turkey and Ukraine and efforts ⁣toward achieving peace with Russia.

The free trade agreement between⁢ Ankara and Kyiv was signed in‌ february 2022 and received erdoğan’s approval in August 2024.

Turkish officials have neither confirmed⁢ nor denied Erdoğan’s planned​ trip to Kyiv.

Erdoğan has repeatedly stated⁣ that Turkey is ready to host talks between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He expressed hope that⁤ such a meeting would lead⁣ to an‍ agreement ending the war in Ukraine.

Previously, Istanbul hosted the third round of negotiations between Russia ⁣and Ukraine on July 23. During this 40-minute session, both​ sides discussed their positions outlined in their respective memorandums of understanding.
