UN Security Council Emergency Meeting on Gaza Postponed
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Qatar’s Al jazeera network and Mehr News Agency, several diplomats told the broadcaster that the United Nations Security Council’s emergency meeting on Israeli plans in Gaza has been rescheduled for Sunday.
On Friday, diplomatic sources had informed Al Jazeera that the Security Council would hold an urgent session on Saturday to discuss Israel’s strategy regarding the occupation of Gaza.
These sources also stated that Russia, China, Somalia, and Algeria support convening an immediate United Nations Security Council meeting to address Israel’s plans to take control of Gaza.
The UK, Denmark, France, Greece, and Slovenia have also officially requested an emergency Security Council session to debate Israel’s proposed occupation of the Gaza Strip.
This backing for a council meeting comes amid growing international efforts to respond to escalating tensions caused by Israel.
Earlier, Palestine Liberation Organization representative Riyad Mansour at the UN announced that several countries will soon call for a Security Council session concerning Gaza.
Mansour emphasized that urgent action is needed to prevent Israel from occupying Gaza City. He warned that Netanyahu’s cabinet is pushing forward with a malicious plan in Gaza.
“what must be done now is establishing peace and providing food for Palestinians in Gaza-not committing mass killings,” he said. “We face a critical moment; war in gaza must not continue.”
