Moscow: 172 Terrorist Attacks Foiled in Russia This Year
Alexander Bortnikov, head of Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) and director of the Federal Security service (FSB), stated on Tuesday that law enforcement agencies have prevented 172 terrorist attacks across Russia so far this year. These incidents include nine armed assaults targeting educational institutions.
Bortnikov revealed that the number of terrorist crimes-primarily aimed at critical infrastructure, social facilities, military personnel, and government officials-has considerably increased this year. Law enforcement successfully foiled all 172 planned attacks.
The FSB chief added that most perpetrators were influenced by Ukrainian intelligence services or neo-Nazi organizations.
According to the head of the Russian anti-terrorism body, youths now constitute 65 percent of individuals involved in terrorist activities. Moreover, attacks carried out by minors continue to rise steadily.
