Egyptian Foreign Minister Explains Cairo’s Plan for Gaza Ceasefire
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency via russia Al-Youm, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said that a Palestinian committee composed of 15 technocratic figures will govern Gaza under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority.
He added that this Palestinian committee will manage Gaza’s affairs temporarily for six months.
Abdelatty stated that the understandings reached are based on a temporary transitional mechanism within the framework of the Palestinian Authority. Cairo is working with Qatar and the United States to revive a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza as part of efforts to end the war between Israel and Hamas.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized that his country, in full cooperation with Qatar and the U.S., is making substantial efforts to ensure implementation of this proposal. The primary goal is to return to the original initiative-a 60-day ceasefire-with conditions including releasing some Israeli and Palestinian prisoners and allowing unrestricted humanitarian and medical aid into Gaza.
Abdelatty strongly criticized Israel’s attempts to displace Palestinians from their land, stating, “There is no legal or moral justification for expelling Palestinians from their land.” He warned, “If this happens, they will never return,” asserting that Israel merely wants to hand them an “exit pass.”
Earlier,a learned source told Sky news arabia that Egyptian and Qatari mediators, with Turkey’s participation, have presented a new plan intended for Hamas leaders.
If Hamas agrees to this plan, an American mediator will review it before submitting it to Israel.
the proposal emphasizes releasing all Israeli prisoners along with returning bodies of other captives in exchange for freeing some Palestinian detainees.
It also requires Hamas to agree on redeploying Israeli forces under Arab and U.S. supervision until reaching a solution regarding Hamas’ weapons presence in Gaza.
The plan calls for entering a transitional phase involving cessation of Hamas’ armed activities and launching negotiations toward securing a permanent ceasefire agreement.
