Slovakia: Putin-Trump Meeting Challenged Western Black-and-White Narratives
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and RT, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico highlighted that the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska challenged entrenched Western hostile narratives about relations wiht Russia.
In October 2023,opposing the dominant stance within the European Union,Fico halted Bratislava’s military aid to kyiv. He has been a consistent critic of the EU’s sanctions against Moscow and opposed Ukraine’s NATO membership aspirations.
Commenting on the Putin-Trump meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, Fico posted a video on Facebook emphasizing that “the mere fact that Putin and Trump met face-to-face was the most important issue.”
He added: “Politicians must meet and show mutual respect. They should seek understanding through dialog. Yesterday’s high-level summit dismantled the black-and-white view of military conflict in Ukraine and fundamentally challenged mandatory one-sided perspectives on war.”
Fico emphasized: ”We need to discuss security guarantees equally for both Ukraine and the Russian Federation while considering this war’s historical roots. The coming days will reveal whether major EU players will back this approach or persist with a failed strategy aimed at weakening Russia.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also praised the putin-Trump meeting yesterday via a post on X (formerly Twitter), thanking them for “making the world a safer place than before.”
