Incident Occurred at Stockholm Airport in November 2022

A swedish newspaper revealed that a folder⁤ containing documents from the 2022 meeting between Sweden’s prime minister⁣ and Turkey’s⁤ president about Stockholm’s NATO membership ‍was left behind at a Swedish⁤ airport.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News⁢ Agency and Daily Sabah, the Swedish ⁢daily Dagens Nyheter reported‍ that during the November 2022 meeting between Prime Minister ulf Kristersson and president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to discuss⁣ Sweden’s⁢ accession ‍to NATO,a ‌folder containing Stockholm government documents was forgotten at Arlanda Airport.

The newspaper stated⁣ that promptly after Kristersson and ‍Erdoğan’s talks, one official left behind the⁢ folder related to negotiations at the airport.

The Swedish government press service confirmed that ⁣one of its⁢ staff members ‌had accidentally ⁣left ⁤the‍ folder at Arlanda Airport. It ⁣was later ⁣found by an airport employee.

Stockholm also confirmed that these documents did not contain classified data but⁤ refused to provide details on how long they were⁢ missing or how the incident ⁤was handled.

The report quoted sources‍ suggesting parts of the documents were‌ covered by foreign relations confidentiality rules and ⁢contained information possibly damaging to Sweden’s relations with ‌other countries.

As a key NATO member for over 70 years, Turkey conditionally approved Sweden’s entry into⁤ this US-led military alliance, citing concerns ⁣related to terrorist groups⁣ like the PKK and Fethullah Gülen organization-which Turkey labels as terrorist⁢ entities.

Following extensive negotiations addressing NATO members’ objections and settling disputes, Sweden officially became ⁤NATO’s 31st member on March 7, 2024, after agreeing to measures addressing Turkey’s ⁣security‍ concerns.
