Iraq’s President Issues Latest Statement on PKK and Gaza
Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid spoke to Iraq’s Channel One regarding developments in Gaza and the PKK, according to the English section of webangah News Agency citing Mehr News Agency.
Rashid described the PKK’s disarmament under an agreement with Turkey as a crucial step toward strengthening peace, security, and stability. He said it would help resolve disputes in Iraq related to incursions and Turkey’s establishment of bases along Iraqi borders.
On gaza, Rashid warned that ongoing attacks have a negative impact across the entire region. He reaffirmed Iraq’s clear position-standing firmly with the Palestinian people seeking their legitimate right to self-determination. “The assaults and starvation must stop, and humanitarian aid should be sent to Gaza,” he said.
The president also commented on relations between Baghdad and Erbil: “They are good across all fields; differences do exist but shared interests outweigh them.”
He stressed the urgent need for passing an oil and gas law. “Unfortunately,” Rashid noted, “the parliament has yet to approve this vital legislation.”
Addressing environmental concerns, Rashid highlighted a global water crisis aggravated by climate change affecting Iraq severely. He called for Iraq to secure its fair share of water from neighboring countries while halting water wastage domestically thru modern irrigation and agricultural techniques.
Regarding parliamentary elections, Rashid emphasized the importance of clarity while rejecting reports about delays. “We take pride in conducting all election processes without any postponement or deviation from schedule,” he stated. “We must ensure public confidence in free and timely elections.”
