Boat Carrying Migrants Capsizes in Canary Islands; 70 Dead
The English section of webangah News Agency,citing mehr News Agency and The Autonomous,reported that the capsizing of a migrant boat off the coast of West Africa led to at least 70 fatalities.
The Gambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a release that the boat, carrying mainly Gambian and Senegalese migrants, sank off Mauritanian shores.
Officials said 30 others remain missing. The vessel is believed to have carried 150 passengers at the time, with only 16 survivors rescued.
Mauritanian authorities have recovered 70 bodies from the water. This tragedy ranks among the deadliest incidents on this perilous route to Europe in recent years.
