Unusual Restrictions Imposed on Iranian Diplomats at UN General Assembly
The English section of webangah News Agency reports, citing Mehr News Agency and the Associated Press, that the administration of U.S.President Donald Trump intends to enforce new limitations on diplomatic delegations from countries such as iran during the UN General Assembly meetings starting September 22 in New York.
The Associated Press referred to an internal US State Department letter it claims to have seen, stating that travel restrictions and other limitations will also apply to delegations from Sudan, Zimbabwe, and possibly Brazil.
Although these potential restrictions remain under review and could change, the proposals represent another step by the Trump administration toward imposing tougher visa regulations. This includes extensive scrutiny of holders of valid US entry permits and also applicants attending UN sessions.
The Associated Press noted that Iranian diplomats already face severe movement constraints in New York. under one suggested measure, they would be banned from entering major stores without official authorization from the US State Department.
Recently, the Trump administration revoked visas for Mahmoud Abbas, chairman of the Palestinian Authority, and his diplomatic delegation for their planned trip to New York to attend this year’s annual UN general Assembly session.
