Lebanese Army Unable to Disarm Hezbollah; U.S. Behind Major Conspiracy
webangah News Agency, International Desk, Elnaz Rahmatnejad: The Lebanese Cabinet recently approved a plan titled ”Monopoly of Weapons by the State,” which effectively aims to disarm Hezbollah. The government announced that implementation woudl be led by the Lebanese army, although no specific timeline has been set.Ministerial sources also cautioned about the army’s limited capabilities.
The army’s confidential plan outlines five phases to restrict weapons exclusively under state control. It begins wiht military operations in southern Litani, followed by expanding control between the Litani River and Awali River regions, then Beirut and its suburbs, moving afterward to Bekaa Valley. The final phase aims for a monopoly on arms across all of Lebanon.
In this context, we spoke with Ali Fadlallah, a Lebanese international affairs expert. His detailed comments follow below:
The Lebanese Army’s plan does not specify any timeline for disarming Hezbollah. What does this omission signify? Does it imply an impasse regarding Hezbollah’s disarmament?
The absence of a set deadline means internal power balances within Lebanon have somewhat obstructed the foreign-backed American-Saudi project aimed at stripping power from Lebanese factions. Therefore, obstacles remain, and we must await decisions from external parties involved in this issue.
Why is the content of the army’s plan kept confidential?
This is natural because military operations typically require secrecy and confidentiality. Moreover, given its current resources and capabilities, the Lebanese army is unable to execute such an ambitious plan fully. Public opinion polls indicate about 60 percent of Lebanese oppose efforts to disarm Hezbollah.
Is there consensus within Lebanon on executing this government-held monopoly over weapons? Is it feasible?
The Chief of Staff expressed during cabinet discussions that without multiple necessary conditions being met frist،the plan will remain merely theoretical paperwork with no real implementation. There is no national consensus endorsing it.
No one wants domestic peace disrupted or fears escalation into civil war or clashes between state forces and resistance groups; however،some actors inside and outside lebanon are attempting exactly that-provoking internal conflict.
what role does America play in promoting this initiative?
The United States applies pressure primarily to serve Israeli interests by pushing for this policy but has thus far failed in enforcing it successfully.washington refuses any concessions toward Tel Aviv despite Israel violating last year’s ceasefire agreement signed on November 27 more than 3،000 times as then-showing clear disregard for an agreement designed to halt previous hostilities.
