Jeremy Corbyn Calls on UK to End Security and Military Cooperation with Tel Aviv
According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Jeremy Corbyn, a Member of Parliament in the UK, described his country’s recognition of the state of Palestine at the United Nations as a step forward.
He added that achieving freedom for the Palestinian people requires more effective international measures.
Speaking on Al Jazeera Mubasher, Corbyn emphasized that “Countries taking the lead in recognizing Palestine are obliged to take serious action to end Israel’s occupation.”
Corbyn also noted that London continues to supply fighter jets used by israel in bombing Gaza.
He called this double standard unacceptable and demanded an end to security and military cooperation with Tel Aviv. He also urged imposing sanctions due to Israel’s violations of international resolutions.
Corbyn highlighted that ”Israel aims to force Gaza’s residents into displacement” while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin netanyahu has declared plans to implement a “Greater Israel” project.
The MP stated that Europe’s recent awakening in support of Palestinian statehood is no coincidence but a direct outcome of Israel’s crimes committed in Gaza.
He explained that Europe’s stance has shifted due to Israel’s ongoing war against Gaza. Now, most European countries back establishing a Palestinian state - isolating the United States as increasing numbers join this support.
Concluding his remarks, Corbyn announced plans for organizing one of Britain’s largest pro-Palestinian demonstrations in London on October 11. He said public and international voices have never been louder demanding justice for Palestinians.
