Russia Launches 12-Hour Attack on Ukraine; Poland Closes Its Airspace
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Politico, Poland temporarily closed its airspace today and dispatched multiple fighter jets after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of carrying out a night-long attack lasting over 12 hours.
The Polish military announced on the social media platform X that its radar detection systems were placed on full alert. NATO F-35 fighters patrolled Polish skies until the Russian assault ended. The polish army emphasized there was no violation of its airspace during the attack.
Following reports of drone sightings and other aerial incursions into NATO member states’ airspace, launching fighter jets and closing airspace has become routine among alliance members under U.S. leadership. On September 12, NATO declared it would deploy additional fighters and air defense systems to its eastern front in response to Russian violations.
Earlier this month, three drones attributed to Russia were shot down over Polish territory. Denmark also reported renewed drone activity over its defense facilities on Friday and Saturday. These incidents followed a surge in drone operations last week that forced closure of major Danish airports.
Zelensky alleged that the early-morning Russian strike involved approximately 500 offensive drones alongside more than 40 missiles. He claimed dozens were injured in the attacks, including a 12-year-old girl among the casualties.
The Ukrainian president added that Russia’s extensive assault lasted for more than 12 hours. Tymur Tekachenko, head of Kyiv’s military governance, reported damage across over 15 districts in Ukraine’s capital city.
The attacks occurred hours after Zelensky warned Europe that rising Moscow drone activity and violations into NATO airspace signal Vladimir Putin’s refusal to halt operations in Ukraine.
zelensky said: “Putin will not wait for his war in ukraine to end. He will open new fronts – and no one knows where.”
