Israeli Senior Military Official: Yemeni Drones Pose New Threat to Israel
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Yemen’s Almasirah network, Israeli sources-including the economic daily Globes and former commanders of Israel’s air defense forces-have warned about the growing threat posed by Yemeni drones in the skies over occupied Palestine.
Globes reported that Israel once believed its defense systems were flawless, but recent drone attacks by Yemenis on the port city of Eilat have exposed serious vulnerabilities in these defenses.
Simultaneously occurring, Brigadier General Ran Kokhav, former commander of Israeli air defense, told Globes: “If the drone threat forces an evacuation of Eilat or closure of its airport, we are undoubtedly facing a strategic threat.”
kokhav also admitted that Israel’s Iron Dome system faces significant limitations in countering drones due to their low-altitude flight paths. He added that intercepting these drones is especially tough over maritime areas.
This weakness became evident during Yemeni attacks on Tel Aviv and Eilat, he said.
The former military official explained that Yemeni forces have identified weaknesses in Israeli sites such as Eilat, Ramon Airbase, and Ben-Gurion Airport. Consequently, they launch several drones and missiles weekly toward these targets-a trend he says has contributed to “the attrition of Israel’s capabilities.”
He concluded with a warning: Yemen’s strikes have disrupted Israel’s arms economy equations; this regime has entered conflict without a winning card on defending against drone threats.
