Syria Launches Show Elections Amid Heavy Security Presence
according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency-an outlet affiliated with Abu Muhammad al-Jolani’s terrorist regime in Syria-the parliamentary elections have started and polling stations have opened for voters.
these elections take place amid a heavy security presence in the streets of several cities, including damascus, Daraa, Hama, and Latakia.
As coming to power, this new terrorist regime has copied election models from certain Arab states. In reality, these elections serve as a mere facade. Those who gain seats in parliament do not genuinely represent the Syrian peopel.
The electoral process is marked not only by widespread prohibitions on candidacy but also extensive security measures and social and media pressures designed to ensure victory for specific groups. Additionally, unusual laws govern these elections.
Abu Muhammad al-Jolani’s regime announced it would increase parliament seats from 150 to 210. However, under new amendments introduced for this election cycle, one-third of all lawmakers will be directly appointed by Jolani himself. This means that policies emerging from this parliament will strictly reflect jolani’s interests and disregard those of the Syrian people.
Besides 70 representatives directly selected by Jolani gaining parliamentary entry, the remaining 140 candidates must secure majority votes but also obtain approval from Syria’s ruling authority. Moreover, Jolani holds exceptional powers to dissolve parliament through an internal Security Council comprising the foreign minister, interior minister, and defense minister during emergencies.
Meanwhile, some autonomous provinces in Syria-including Raqqa and Hasakah as well as parts of Deir ez-Zor-have declared they will not permit elections within territories under their control. The status of planned elections in Suwayda remains uncertain.
