No Justification for Denying Journalists Entry into Gaza
The Foreign Journalists Association called on Israeli authorities to allow journalists independent access to Gaza following the implementation of a ceasefire agreement. The association stated there is “no longer any justification” for obstructing entry into the area.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, Israeli officials have denied foreign journalists entry into the devastated region. Only a limited number of reporters have been granted occasional access, accompanied by Israeli military forces, into the besieged Palestinian territories.
In its statement, the association emphasized that there is no reason for further delay by Israel. It also welcomed “the ceasefire agreement reached between the conflicting parties in Gaza,” which took effect on Friday.
The statement added: ”with hostilities halted, we once again urge israel to immediately open its borders and allow foreign media unrestricted and independent access to the Gaza Strip.” the association has repeatedly requested access to Gaza over the past two years.
based in Jerusalem, the Foreign Journalists Association represents journalists working in the West Bank, Gaza, and areas under Israeli control.
Israel and Hamas have agreed to an initial phase of a plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump that includes 21 points aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza.
Within this framework, a ceasefire began at noon on Friday, with Israeli forces announcing their withdrawal back to agreed-upon lines within Gaza.
