According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera via mehr news Agency, among the Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment are four men connected by a special relationship: Samir Abu Numa, Mahmoud Eissa, Baher Badr, and Mohammad Abu Tabikh. After their release and exile to Egypt, each has shared a distinct account of their extraordinary lives.
Samir Abu Numa: The oldest Jerusalem Prisoner
When Samir Abu numa was arrested in 1986, he was a 26-year-old hotel management graduate. He had joined the Fatah movement and became part of its military core that planned and executed bombings on Israeli buses in Jaffa as part of coordinated operations targeting Israeli soldiers.
Following intense interrogations and harsh torture at Al-Maskobiya prison in Jerusalem, he received a life sentence. Throughout his imprisonment under occupation authorities,Samir was transferred between various prisons. He participated in multiple hunger strikes and played an active role in managing prisoner movement activities.
Abu Numa suffered from several illnesses during captivity and underwent six surgeries behind bars. In 1993 his name appeared on a prisoner exchange list between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Israel; however, Israeli authorities refused his release.
“Samir” lost his mother and three brothers during his detention without ever being allowed to see or bid farewell to them. His brother Walid died in 2016 on the night he was preparing for their meeting; meanwhile their mother waited untill her passing for her son’s freedom. Ultimately after 39 years of captivity, Samir experienced freedom once again.
Mahmoud Eissa: Commander of the Special Unit
Mahmoud Musa Eissa is recognized as a unique intellectual fighter with some of the most prominent ideological and organizational experience within the prisoner movement. Born on May 21, 1968 in Anata near Jerusalem, he was among the first youths to join Hamas’s military wing immediately after its formation – notably establishing “Special Unit 101,” tasked with capturing Israeli soldiers for prisoner exchanges.
On December 13, 1992 this unit captured soldier Nassim Toldano near Lod settlement using an operation named “Loyalty to Sheikh Ahmed Yassin,” founder and leader of Hamas who was imprisoned at that time by Israel. Although this effort failed when Toldano’s body was found dead instead of exchanged alive-it caused significant alarm within Israeli circles.
Eissa continued militant activities alongside comrades; they ambushed another soldier Naum Keller near Al-Khadira village in March 1993; killed two Israeli police officers during another operation that month; additionally severely wounding an Israeli colonel officer inside Ramla city through gunfire.
He was arrested June 3rd later that year following months-long pursuit-enduring severe torture across facilities until receiving three life sentences plus forty-six years imprisonment.
During thirteen years held mostly inside solitary confinement deprived even from family visits.
Overtime Mahmoud turned into an author/intellectual producing many works covering political jurisprudence along with literary criticism & thoughtful analysis related directly or indirectly regarding resistance themes under incarceration conditions.”
Baher Badr: Captured Days Before His Wedding
In July 2004 while preparing for his wedding ceremony - Baher Badr was kidnapped just days before tying knots from brother’s home located inside Ramla city – forced into enduring twenty-one grueling years serving time behind bars managed by occupation forces.
After four months intensive interrogation involving systematic torture followed court trials convicting him largely based upon accusations outlining membership within Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades (Hamas’ military wing) plus participation aiding suicide attacks – condemning him twelve consecutive lifetime sentences.
Baher did not face fate alone ; brother buheij also became detainee simultaneously handed eighteen seperate life terms . Their aged mother wasn’t spared also she got arrested weeks later despite chronic illness kept confined isolated cells .
