Warning Issued About Widespread Power Outages in the Occupied Territories

According to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Sputnik, research conducted in the occupied territories indicates that Israel faces widespread power outages during wars and crises.
The study, supervised by Ariel University professor Erez cohen, highlights numerous challenges confronting the electricity industry in the occupied territories. These include a meaningful gap between supply and demand and an overreliance on natural gas.
Seventy percent of electricity production depends on gas from the Tamar and Leviathan fields. Targeting these fields could lead to extensive blackouts within Israeli-controlled areas.
The Jerusalem Post reported that gas shortages are expected to peak next year, possibly costing Israel’s economy hundreds of millions of shekels.
Israel’s domestic power grid is highly centralized, meaning any damage to a primary power plant could trigger widespread outages.
Beyond electricity, Israel also confronts a water crisis.international statistics rank Israel ninth among 164 countries for water stress severity.
