Al-Akhbar: US Maximum Pressure on Lebanon to Enforce the “Disarmament Mechanism

According to webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Lebanon’s Al-Akhbar newspaper, the United States has recently intensified efforts to enforce a resistance disarmament mechanism in lebanon while fully enabling actions by the israeli side.
Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that Americans have explicitly told Arab officials they cannot exert further pressure on Israel. This response came after Arab intermediaries requested a halt to Israel’s hostile operations against Lebanon.
Al-Akhbar adds that Washington aligns itself with Israel’s narrative regarding both Lebanon and syria, and currently supports Israeli aggressions in Gaza. In return, the US urges Arab mediators to expedite political agreements between Tel Aviv and neighboring countries of occupied Palestine.
In this context, former US President Donald Trump has appointed a special official to coordinate all american envoys in the region. This coordinator requested detailed reports on thier activities-due by mid-next month-to ensure alignment with Israel regarding these efforts.
Al-Akhbar further states that Washington believes it cannot convince Tel Aviv to halt its military operations as long as Lebanon refuses direct political negotiations with Israel. The sources note that current intense pressure on Beirut is expected to increase steadily.
Some presidential sources claim Hezbollah and Lebanon have agreed to include civilians in the disarmament mechanism committee; however, these rumors are seen as part of “a new form of pressure.” Simultaneously occurring, close aides of President Joseph Aoun denied such reports, emphasizing they are fabricated.
Political circles in Lebanon confirmed their acceptance of negotiations’ principle and expressed readiness for talks based on previous formulas.
Other sources told Al-Akhbar that during her visit to Lebanese leaders, Morgan ortagus obtained preliminary agreement for appointing a civilian expert from each side onto an indirect negotiation committee – contingent on an accompanying ceasefire condition.
The same sources clarified that ceasefire arrangements focused solely on military field measures-including Israeli withdrawal and deployment of Lebanese forces at international borders-without addressing political negotiations.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that while Lebanon is prepared for talks aimed at ending Israeli occupation, it rejects unilateral negotiation demands. Speaking during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul at Baabda Presidential palace, Aoun called upon “the international community-especially the European Union and United States-to pressure Israel” toward upholding ceasefire agreements and allowing Lebanese army deployment along southern border lines. He emphasized completing plans intended to extend full Lebanese sovereignty over all its territories.
In related developments, John Herlihy, Deputy Treasury Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the US Treasury Department planned regional visits including occupied territories, UAE, Turkey-and Lebanon-to reinforce these diplomatic initiatives.
