Al-Baradei’s Latest Controversial Statement Sparks Outcry

Mohamed ElBaradei, former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, sparked controversy with a recent statement addressing Arab governments’ positions regarding legal complaints against Israel at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In a message posted on the social media platform X, ElBaradei highlighted widespread consensus among governments, organizations, and experts that Israel has committed mass killings and other crimes against humanity in Gaza.
He added that he has been following the stance of Arab states concerning South Africa’s complaint against Israel at the ICC and other formal charges filed ther. ElBaradei observed that most countries joining or filing their own complaints against Israel-such as Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros, Djibouti, south Africa, Chile, and Mexico-are non-Arab nations. Simultaneously occurring, Arab states continue to regard themselves as custodians of the Palestinian issue.
ElBaradei concluded by stating: “I think that Arab governments fear being part of any legal action against israel. I hope I am wrong!”
