Israeli Historian: Mamdani’s Victory in New York Rings Alarm for Israel

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and the Palestine Information Center, Kobi barda, a Zionist historian and expert on American politics, called Zahran Mammadan’s win in New York’s mayoral race a dangerous political development. He said this event should serve as an alarm for israel.
In an article published by Yedioth Ahronoth, Barda wrote that Mammadan’s victory is not a temporary event but reflects the rise of a broad movement within America that challenges Israel’s legitimacy, existence, and right to self-determination.
he added it is indeed remarkable that a city like new York-with the largest Jewish population in the world and shaped by events such as 9/11-has now elected someone whose political foundation is built on strong criticism of Israel.
Barda reviewed Mammadan’s anti-Zionist background, noting that he had previously called for ending academic cooperation between Cornell University in New York and Israel’s Technion Institute. Mammadan also supported cutting municipal investments in Israeli government bonds.
The Zionist historian wrote that Mammadan’s victory highlights deepening influence of progressive left-wing forces within the Democratic Party. It marks a defeat for Donald Trump, who had improved Republican electoral prospects in New York by 11 percent during his 2014 campaign.
Barda emphasized this development shows Tel Aviv no longer enjoys its former consensus within American society; Israel has become a contentious topic both in official U.S. politics and public opinion.
He concluded his article stating this outcome signals serious concerns for Israel as its relationship with its most vital ally is no longer obvious or guaranteed.
