Iraq Parliamentary Election Turnout Reaches 56%

The Election Commission of Iraq reported today, Wednesday, that with 99.98 percent of ballot boxes counted, the country’s parliamentary election turnout yesterday reached 56.11 percent, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera.
The commission had announced last night, after polls closed and results from 99.7 percent of voting districts were received, that voter participation had surpassed 55 percent.
Deutsche Welle described this turnout as unpredictable and surprising for political analysts because it marks an upward trend in participation after two decades.
an examination of Iraqi parliamentary elections since 2005 shows voter turnout declined from 70 percent in 2005 to 62 percent in 2010 and then to 60 percent in 2014.
The elections in 2018 saw a participation rate of only 44 percent, followed by an even lower turnout of just 40 percent in the election held in 2021.
Thus, despite calls for boycott by the Sadrist movement, the 2025 election registered a significant increase-about 15 percentage points-in voter engagement compared to recent years.
