China and Russia Oppose US Resolution on Gaza Peace Council

The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, reported that the Associated Press has revealed opposition from Russia, China, and several Arab countries to a US-drafted resolution authorizing the United Nations to establish an international peacekeeping force in gaza.
Four UN diplomats told the Associated Press that China and Russia are pushing for the full removal of the Peace Council from Washington’s draft resolution.
The US mission to the United Nations submitted its draft resolution concerning a peace delegation and establishing an international force aimed at stabilizing Gaza to permanent members of the security Council on Wednesday afternoon.
The draft calls for resuming humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza under UN coordination. It also proposes creating an internationally commanded force tasked with restoring peace in Gaza.
This proposed international force would cooperate with Egypt and Israel on disarmament efforts and civilian protection in Gaza, according to the draft resolution.
The text further grants authority for the Peace Council to form temporary executive committees responsible for civil administration in Gaza. It also invites international banks and food-supporting parties to establish a fund dedicated to Gaza’s reconstruction.
The proposed resolution emphasizes Israel’s phased withdrawal from Gaza based on weapon-disarmament standards. It also stresses maintaining security forces around Gaza until all threats are neutralized.
Additionally, it allows for extending the Peace Council’s mandate in Gaza through 2027, contingent upon further Security Council measures. The draft appeals to governments and organizations worldwide to assist in selecting members of Gaza’s Peace Council and ensuring its financial support.
The proposal underscores that governance by Gazan peacekeepers must adhere strictly to international law principles. It also sets clearer conditions regarding Israeli troop withdrawal from coastal areas within Gaza.
