China: U.S. Gaza Resolution Ignores Palestinian Rights

According to the English service of webangah news agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that the U.S.-proposed Security Council resolution on Gaza does not fully address the issue of a “two-state solution” and ignores Palestinians’ right to self-determination.
Mao identified China’s abstention from voting on the U.S. resolution concerning Gaza as stemming from insufficient attention to establishing a Palestinian state within the draft.
The Chinese official added that key issues, such as Gaza’s future after hostilities end, remain “unclear” in Washington’s proposal. He affirmed China’s support for the Palestinian people’s just struggle to reclaim their legal rights and pledged efforts toward achieving complete, fair, and lasting peace in the region.
Mao also emphasized that China backs Security Council measures aimed at securing a sustainable ceasefire, alleviating humanitarian crises, and initiating reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
The United Nations Security Council convened late Monday night new york time (early Tuesday Tehran time) to debate two draft resolutions submitted by the United States and Russia regarding Gaza. The U.S. resolution was adopted with 13 votes in favor.
Thirteen council members voted yes on Washington’s draft; Russia and China abstained. The resolution establishes a legal framework for creating a peacekeeping mission and an international force tasked with stabilizing a ceasefire in Gaza.
