Pakistan Responds to Death Sentence of Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, Tahir Hussain Andarabi, spokesperson for the ministry, said at a press conference in Islamabad regarding the death sentence issued against Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s former prime minister: “This is an internal matter of Bangladesh.”
He added, “The peopel of Bangladesh are fully capable of resolving their issues through their democratic and legal processes.”
This statement followed a death sentence handed down in absentia by a Bangladeshi court against the former prime minister. Sheikh Hasina was tried on charges of crimes against humanity during last year’s uprising against her government.
The student protests crackdown, which ended 15 years of rule by the Awami League party, resulted in over 1,400 deaths.
Last Monday, Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death on charges of ”crimes against humanity” linked to suppressing the 2024 protests. She has called the verdict political and claims that orders to open fire were issued by a caretaker government led by Muhammad Yunus.
after her government fell, Sheikh Hasina fled to India where she currently resides. Experts suggest it is indeed unlikely she will be extradited back to Bangladesh.
